ΑΘΗΝΑΖΕ

The ΑΘΗΝΑΖΕ Introduction to Classical Greek method was written in 1990 by Maurice Balme, a professor at Harrow School, and Gilbert Lawall, from the University of Massachusetts, and published by the publishing house of the University of Oxford.

The edition we work with was expanded by Luigi Miraglia, founder and director of the Vivarium Novum Academy, and Tommaso Francesco Bórri, who is currently a professor at the Schola Latina in Montella.

The original method follows the tradition initiated by W.H.D. Rouse, a professor at the Perse School and a pioneer in the application of the direct method in the teaching of classical languages.

It offers a Greek text of progressive difficulty that facilitates the gradual assimilation of vocabulary and grammar. The story narrates the adventures of a family of Athenian peasants in 5th century BC Athens while introducing various historical and mythological tales.

The Italian edition significantly expands the amount of Greek text, so the review of structures and vocabulary is more comprehensive.

Additionally, we include a set of active grammar exercises developed by a team of teachers coordinated by Professor Carlos Martínez Aguirre.
